Finance minister Enoch Godongwana, has appointed Lebogang Paul Mogashoa as the new Pension Funds Adjudicator (PFA).

The appointment is for a period of three years, effective December 8.

He will succeed incumbent PFA Muvhango Antoinette Lukhaimane.

By the end of 2025, Lukhaimane will have completed a 12-year tenure marked by significant transformation of the Office of the Pension Funds Adjudicator (OPFA), where she oversaw thousands of determinations.

According to Godongwana, Mogashoa brings more than 17 years of experience in pension fund law, governance, management, and administration.

He is currently the deputy principal executive officer and company secretary of the Eskom Pension and Provident Fund, and previously served as senior corporate legal counsel at the Pension Fund Manco for the South African Tourism Board.

Mogashoa began his career at the OPFA as a legal intern before advancing to the position of senior assistant adjudicator.

Throughout his career, Mogashoa has demonstrated strong leadership and strategic insight, particularly in managing high-value litigation within the retirement funds sector, he notes.

According to Godongwana, his understanding of pension fund law and dedication to public service make him well-suited to lead the OPFA.

The finance minister thanked Lukhaimane for her “outstanding contribution and exceptional leadership in shaping the OPFA’s success”.

An admitted advocate, Mogashoa holds an LLB from the University of Limpopo, a Master of Management in Governance and Management from the University of the Witwatersrand, and an LLM in Mercantile Law from the University of Pretoria. He has also completed an executive development programme at the University of Stellenbosch.
