Freight and logistics group Grindrod has appointed its terminals head Kwazi Mabaso as Chief Executive Office (CEO) with effect from 1 December 2025.
The announcement was made via the JSE’s Stock Exchange News Service (Sens), following the resignation of outgoing CEO Xolani Mbambo.
Grindrod notes that it conducted a “rigorous, multi-faceted search process, supported by a leading executive search team” to find a new CEO to lead the group into its next phase of growth.
The group opted for an internal appointment. Mabaso is currently serving as CEO of Grindrod Terminals, overseeing operations across sub-Saharan Africa.
He brings with him a wealth of expertise in overseeing large-scale projects and offers a global perspective informed by deep engagement within African markets,” the group notes.
Mabaso has also played a central part in finalising and executing large strategic mergers and acquisitions, which have been concluded this year, it adds.
With over 24 years’ experience in mining, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), railway and maritime logistics, Mabaso is a seasoned business leader, the group notes.
He holds a Bachelor of Science (Engineering) degree and a postgraduate diploma in Business Administration.
Prior to Grindrod, he spent ten years at Transnet in several senior positions, including executive management of the Richards Bay Terminals as well as leadership positions at Durban Container Terminal, the Manganese Corridor and North-East Corridor.
