A former Kaizer Chiefs Public Relations Officer (PRO) Louis Tshakoane has been arrested at Alex Shakoane’s funeral which is underway in Mamelodi, Tshwane.
Tshakoane was one of the speakers at the funeral at the International Assemblies of God Church in Mamelodi, Tshwane.
It was after 10am when he concluded his speech and went to hug CAF president Patrice Motsepe before he left the building only to land in the hands of the Hawks who had been waiting for him.
The police officer who asked not to be named, said they’re not allowed to speak with the media.
Mickey Modisane, former Orlando Pirates PRO and now Department of Sport chief director, voiced his disappointment at the way the police handled their operation.
“I was sitting with Alex “Barnes” Bapela and Mazolman when Bra Louis was suddenly accosted by the cops,” said Modisane.
“They could have waited, and not [arrest him] in full view of the mourners. It was a very shocking and embarrassing incident. There was a lot of drama but it was done swiftly.”
SuperSport United spokesperson Mazolman Sikhosana, who also attended the funeral, was outraged at what transpired.
“It is a very sad story. They did not have to bring so much drama and embarrass Louis in that manner,” said Sikhosana.
It is alleged that Tshakoane, may have been involved in more than just luring unsuspecting funders to bankroll an illegal investment scheme known as Undercover Billionaires.
The Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crimes Unit issued warrants of arrest for 70-year-old Tshakoane and his wife, Komane Suzen Tshakoane, 55, who were believed to be on the run.
Tshakoane was reportedly sniffing around a lucrative oil-refinery development in mid-2017 with the KwaDube traditional council in eMpembeni, near Richards Bay.
After parting ways with Chiefs, Tshakoane was on the regional structures of SA Football Association (Safa).
The funeral was conducted a few hours before Sundowns play their final DStv Premiership match of the season against Maritzburg United at the Loftus Stadium on Tuesday evening. They will be crowned champions for a record sixth time in a row and 13th time overall since the PSL started in 1996.
