The City of Johannesburg has on Tuesday announced that Hendrik Potgieter Road near Raceworx KTM in Rooderpoort, has been closed temporarily.
This is after the road collapsed due to the ongoing flooding across the province.
“Hendrick Potgieter road near Raceworx KTM has been closed for traffic following the collapse of the road. This is a Provincial Road and Gautrans have secured the area and engineers are undertaking structural assessments. Gauteng Province Transport will provide updates,” read the statement.
Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) is at the scene “to direct traffic and to ensure road users’ safety”.
Meanwhile, Councillor Zoné Hughes visited the site on Tuesday, joined by representatives from the Gauteng Department of Road and Transport, and the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA).
Hughes confirmed a contractor and engineer would be joining them today to inspect the road.
Major delays due to traffic congestion are expected along this route and motorists are advised to use alternate routes.
