Springbok scrumhalf Herschel Jantjies is the latest big name player to commit to a contract extension with the DHL Stormers.
Western Province Rugby confirmed on Tuesday that Jantjies, who was Faf de Klerk’s bench back-up at the 2019 Rugby World Cup, has locked himself into the Stormers for the next two years, with his contract now running to the end of the 2024 season.
Like former national age-group captain and recent Bok tourist Salmaan Moerat, who extended his contract a few weeks ago, Jantjies spoke about the the culture and vibe that has been built up in the Stormers team under the coaching of John Dobson as being a pivotal factor in his decision to remain with the union where he learned his rugby and came through the systems.
“I am very excited about the direction that this team is going and can see us building up to something special here,” said Jantjies.
“This is my home and this has always been my team, so I am looking forward to contributing in any way I can go going forward.”
Dobson said that Jantjies had a story that was an inspirational one.
“Herschel has had to work very hard to get to where he is today, “said the Stormers coach.
“I have seen him evolve into a world class player through incredible passion and commitment for his union. He is exactly the type of player we need in our team and we are excited to see what he can achieve in the Stormers jersey in the years to come.”
