Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt has issued a stern warning to all his charges as the club looks set for wholesale changes at the end of the season.
Chiefs have several players in the final few months of their contracts and, following the departure of Siphelele Ntshangase, the axe is expected to fall on a couple more come May/June.
Senior players such as Bernard Parker, Willard Katsande, Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Lebogang Manyama will all see their deals run up at the end of this season and it’s understood that the club has pushed back negotiations for now.
Hunt has also reacted to his side’s first victory over Orlando Pirates at their fourth attempt in the 2020/21 season.
Reflecting on the manner in which they managed to scrape over the fence this time around, Hunt admitted it was not their best performance but was just reward for the effort they put out on the pitch.
“I think we’ve played much better at times this year and lost, so football’s a funny game. We played far better in previous games, I think, and lost, and that’s how things work,” Hunt told the media.
“But the most important thing today is that we defended better. Our shape was better, we worked on it on the training ground and we were much more compact between the lines.
“We were much more disciplined today and far more patient, and that’s things we can only keep working on, on a daily basis.”
The win ended Chiefs’ six-match winless run in the league and they also climbed up to ninth place on the table – three points behind eighth-placed TS Galaxy.
