Keagan Dolly is relishing a battle against his former side on Sunday as he looks to lift Kaizer Chiefs to victory against Mamelodi Sundowns to keep their Caf Champions League qualification hopes alive.
Dolly spent two seasons at Chloorkop and helped the side to 2016 Champions League glory, but after five years in France has returned to the PSL with boyhood idols Chiefs.
While it has been a disappointing season for the team, it has been a triumph for Dolly, who has eight goals in all competitions to go with a number of assists.
But he says it remains a team game and he is only happy with the side are winning, no matter his personal performances.
“Since I’ve started playing football, it’s not about me and it’s never been about me,” Dolly said. “As long as the team is doing well and getting results, I’m happy at the end of the day.
“The goal I scored against Gallants [on Tuesday] took a deflection off Khama [Billiat] and went in. Sometimes you have to create your own luck but for me, personally, I don’t look at the stats, I don’t look at whether or not I scored or assisted a goal.
“It’s about the team performance. If the team is doing well, the individuals will stand out. With the help of my teammates, and they have really helped me this season, they put me in positions where I could score goals.
“But I don’t look at all these things with me and my stats. It’s about the team first and afterwards, I will try and improve my [goals tally].”
