The fourth T20 International between India and South Africa abandoned on Wednesday due to “excessive fog” at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

The umpires called off the match after five inspections at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. India lead the five-match series 2-1

India won the opening match at Cuttack by 101 runs before South Africa fought back to level the series 1-1 following a 51-run win in New Chandigarh.

The Men in Blue then won the third match of the series at Dharamsala by seven wickets to retake the lead.

The Indian cricket team had a change to the squad going into the fourth game with Axar Patel ruled out of the last two T20Is due to illness. Shahbaz Ahmed was named as replacement.

The final match of the series will take place at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday. The episode is likely to reignite questions over scheduling fixtures during peak winter in North and Central India.
