Johannesburg Emergency Services (EMS) have confirmed that the fire that erupted in the outdoor crate storage within the premises of the South African Breweries (SAB) in Soweto has been contained.
The blaze reportedly began when grass in a nearby field caught fire and spread and ignited storage crates on the brewery’s premises
EMS spokesperson Xolile Khumalo said the firefighting teams remain on scene, conducting salvaging and damping down operations to prevent any potential flare-ups.
“Fortunately, the structure on the premises was not affected by the blaze and remains unscathed.” said Khumalo
No injuries were reported.
The fire comes only a week after the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture attended the media briefing to celebrate 130 years of SAB and the influence it has on sports and the brands that bring them together.
