South African Football Association (Safa) president Danny Jordaan has called an emergency executive meeting to discuss the resignation of the Chief Executive.
Tebogo Motlanthe has resigned as the CEO of the South African Football Association (SAFA) on Friday evening.
Fullview has learnt that Jordaan has not accepted his resignation.
Jordaan is expected to meet with National Executive Committee (NEC) members on Sunday to discuss the resignation, which is said to have left the association in tatters.
Safa released a statement where they revealed that an emergency meeting will be held between Jordaan and Motlanthe, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday night.
Safa’s statement reads as follows: Safa president Danny Jordaan and Advocate Motlanthe will meet tonight (Saturday, 6 May 2023) to discuss the matter further and details of their conversation will be communicated in a press release to be issued after the Emergency Meeting to be held on Sunday 7 May 2023.
Motlanthe was appointed by the local football governing body in January 2021 replacing Gay Mokoena having previously served as the organization’s legal officer.
At 39, Advocate Motlanthe became the youngest SAFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) when he was appointed officially in January 2021.
He had served as an acting CEO since April 2020 and had previously served the FA as a Head of Legal and Compliance after having worked at the 2010 FIFA World Cup Local Organising Committee.
News of Motlanthe resigning has come at a time when there is a simmering war between Safa and the Premier Soccer League (PSL) which seems to have reached a crescendo.
Two weeks ago, the PSL announced that it would not attend the Safa congress as the two footballing organizations continued their battle of disagreements.
The Premier Soccer league also stated that they would seek an urgent meeting with sports minister Zizi Kodwa and Caf president Patrice Motsepe.
