Orlando Pirates suffered a 1-0 defeat to Jwaneng Galaxy in their CAF Champions League second preliminary round clash on Sunday afternoon.
Pirates visited Botswana to take on Galaxy in the second preliminary round first leg of the CAF Champions League.
The Buccaneers made changes to the starting line-up against Galaxy and handed Lesedi Kapinga his first start of the season.
Kapinga joined Pirates at the start of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Galaxy took the lead against the Soweto giants in the 21st minute and held on to go into the half-time break with a goal advantage.
Pirates came back into the second half searching for an equalising goal against Galaxy but were let down by poor decision-making in the final third.
Soweto giants will have it all to do in the second leg at Orlando Stadium to turn the scoreline and seal the spot in the Championship League group stages.
Pirates have two demanding domestic matches against Sundowns and Stellenbosch FC upcoming before they host Galaxy for the second-leg clash at Orlando Stadium.
Meanwhile Sekhukhune United cruised to a 3-1 home win over DR Congo’s FC Lupopo in the CAF Confederation Cup second qualifying round first leg on Saturday.
Elsewhere SuperSport United were denied a win late by a Gaborone United goal as they drew 1-1 in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup tie in Botswana on Saturday.
