The Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairman Dr. Irvin “Iron Duke” Khoza confirmed the R20-million prize money for the league winners.
The local top-tier league and its partner have made an important announcement this morning in Parktown, Johannesburg.
“The winner of the Betway Premiership will receive R20 million, number one spot,” Khoza stated.
There was no further breakdown of the prize money for the rest of the teams.
“Watch this space, in a couple of weeks the rest of the prize breakdown will be announced. Number two, number three,” Khoza added.
The PSL signed a three-year deal with betting company Betway in July this year as the top-flight’s new sponsor.Last season, the title winner received R15 million under the DStv sponsorship.
During the announcement of the partnership early this year, Khoza disclosed that the agreement is worth about R900 million.
The chairman also revealed that the league has set new betting rules for players as they are not allowed to place bets.
Orlando Pirates are currently favourites for winning the league as they are at the summit of the PSL standings having won seven consecutive games this season.
