Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany suffered a sudden health scare on Friday, 23 October 2026, after collapsing at the club’s Säbener Strasse training ground.
The first-team coach, 40, “had been watching the second team’s session”, Bayern said in a post on X.
He will be examined at hospital “and remain in medical care” and “for the time being, his coaching staff will manage training and match operations”, the club added.
Kompany’s condition is said to be stable, according to Sky Germany.
The Belgian, a former Burnley manager, is best known in England for the 11 seasons he spent at Premier League giants, Manchester City, eight as captain.
Bayern’s sport director Max Eberl said on X that he will be given “all the time he needs” to recover, adding: “Vincent Kompany’s health is our top priority.
“We at FC Bayern will do everything we can to ensure that he recovers quickly. Vinnie will receive all the necessary medical care and support, as well as all the time he needs.”
Kompany left his role as Burnley manager to take over at Bayern in May 2024, succeeding current England manager Thomas Tuchel.
He had won the Championship with Burnley in 2022-23 and, despite the Clarets being relegated from the Premier League under him the following season, Kompany was appointed by the Bundesliga club.
He has led Bayern to the German top-flight title in the past two seasons and reached the 2025-26 Champions League semi-finals before being beaten by eventual winners Paris St-Germain.
