KwaDukuza municipality (KDM) deputy-mayor, Thulani Ntuli (49), died this morning after collapsing outside the municipal buildings.

It is believed that he was walking from the municipal offices towards the ABSA Bank on Chief Albert Luthuli street when he fell to the ground just before midday.

The cause of death is currently unconfirmed, but according to eyewitness from the scene, Ntuli collapsed after clutching his chest and a heart attack is suspected.

He was rushed to hospital but it was unfortunately too late to save his life.

His death was confirmed by KDM spokesperson, Sipho Mkhize, who was unable to comment further until the leadership of the municipality and his family members had been notified.

Ntuli had served as deputy-mayor since 2021, when he was elected to the main leadership of council alongside mayor, Lindile Nhaca and speaker, Dolly Govender.

He also served as the treasurer for the regional General Gizenga Mpanza African National Congress, most recently being re-elected in 2021.

The African National Congress (ANC) are yet to issue an official statement on the passing of Ntuli.
