Rise Mzansi’s leader in KwaZulu-Natal, Nonkululeko Hlongwane-Mhlongo, has resigned from the party with immediate effect.

Hlongwane-Mhlongo, was KZN premier candidate during the 2024 general election.

She said when she joined Rise Mzansi over a year ago, she aimed to change a political landscape that isolated so many South Africans, leaving them feeling overlooked and unheard.

“I’m proud of the work we have been able to do thus far as a political party many did not believe would make it onto the ballot paper,” she said.

Hlongwane-Mhlongo said much has changed over the past year, and she has reflected on this past year and this moment that they find themselves in, but what has not changed is her will to build a movement of active citizens in KZN that exists across ages, classes, and race.

“As I step away from my roles within Rise Mzansi, I do so with a profound sense of gratitude and hope. The connections forged with dedicated individuals across the province have been a source of inspiration.

“Every discussion, every discussion, every rally and every community engagement has reinforced my belief that collective can lead to meaningful change,” she said.

Hlongwane-Mhlongo also acknowledged the challenges they face as a movement.

“The political landscape is ever evolving, and while there are obstacles ahead, I truly believe that resilience is in our DNA as South Africans.

“It’s imperative that we remain united in our pursuit of a just and equitable society. Let us harness the lessons learned from this past year and adapt, ensuring that we always listen to the voices of those we serve,” she said.

She added that as she moves forward into new endeavours, she carries the spirit of Rise Mzansi with her and the shared dream of an inclusive South Africa.

Rise Mzansi were the first time entrants to the 2024 National and Provincial elections securing two seats – one compensatory and one regional.
