The accused number two in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial Bongani Ntanzi has denied knowing musician Kelly Khumalo.
According to the confession statement said to be made by Ntanzi, he fingers Khumalo as the mastermind behind the murder of her then boyfriend.
Defence counsel Sipho Ramosepele told the lead investigator Brigadier Bongani Gininda during the proceedings, that Ntanzi will deny that he personally knows Kelly Khumalo and does not know who ordered and who paid for the contract killing, if it was a contractual killing or if it was a robbery gone bad. He does not know any of these details.”
“I want to put the accused’s version to you. He denies being one of the intruders entering the house. He denies being the so-called intruder who was dark, tall, had a beard and wore a hoodie on the night of the murder.
“He denies knowing the actual perpetrators in this murder. He denies knowing who planned this murder,” said Ramosepele.
Gininda said evidence that police gathered places Ntanzi at the murder scene, and the police evidence shows that Ntanzi was involved in the planning of Meyiwa’s murder.
Meyiwa was shot and killed at the house of the mother of his then girlfriend, singer Kelly Khumalo, in Vosloorus, on the East Rand, on October 26, 2014.
The people who were present in the house during the murder were Kelly, her sister Zandile, their mother Gladness, Meyiwa, Zandile’s then boyfriend Longwe Twala, and Meyiwa’s close friends Tumelo Madlala and Mthokozisi Twala.
Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Ntanzi, Mthobisi Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Fisokuhle Ntuli are standing trial for the murder of the late football star.
They have all pleaded not guilty to all charges.
They face charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of an unlicenced firearm, and possession of ammunition.
Gininda is expected back on the stand on Tuesday morning.
