German winter weather has thrown the Bundesliga schedule into disarray, with several match postponements leaving temporary question marks in the Bundesliga table.
FC Bayern München have led the way from the very first day at a record-setting pace as they target back-to-back titles under Vincent Kompany. With the likes of Harry Kane and new ‘Robbery’ Michael Olise and Luis Díaz putting the Bavarianson course to smash the season goal record of 101 with several games to spare, can anyone get to grips with FC Bayern over the next 17 games?
RB Leipzig know all too well about the Bavarian’s attacking prowess after their 6-0 loss in Munich in the opening match of the season back in August, in which Kane scored a hat-trick. Leipzig will therefore be eager to show the improvement they have made since then, which saw them go into the winter break in the top four, when they host Bayern on Saturday evening.
FC St. Pauli vs. Borussia Dortmund was a tie that also saw six goals on the opening matchday, albeit in a thrilling encounter that ended 3-3. Coincidentally, that is the same scoreline Dortmund opened 2026 with at Eintracht Frankfurt.
BVB will be confident of showing again the defensive strength they have become known for under Niko Kovač when they welcome St. Pauli earlier on Saturday. A shock result in Dortmund, on the other hand, could give Alexander Blessin’s side areal boost in their survival hopes.
Two rivals in the battle for the top four face off on Saturday afternoon also when TSG Hoffenheim host Bayer 04 Leverkusen, with Hoffenheim being surprise 2-1 winners at Leverkusen on Matchday 1 to kick-start what has been a fine campaign for them so far.
VfB Stuttgart are serious contenders for the top four too, with Deniz Undav an ever-dependable goal threat and fellow Germany international Jamie Leweling also showing “a different side to himself”, according to coach Sebastian Hoeneß. His side host 1. FC Union Berlin in one of two ties on Sunday.
Frankfurt remain in the mix as well, especially with the boost they have gained from the good starts for their pair of attack signings, Younes Ebnoutalib and Arnaud Kalimuendo. The Eagles have a chance to put pressure on their rivals in the emerging battle for European spots should they claim a win at SV Werder Bremen in the opening encounter of the weekend on Friday evening.
