The Randburg Magistrate’s Court has once again postponed the case against Longwe Twala, son of musician and producer Sello “Chicco” Twala, to September 25.

During his third appearance, Longwe’s Legal Aid representative asked for a postponement to familiarise himself with the case docket. He said he needed time to work on his documents and application.

On Thursday, 12 September, his case was postponed as his defence lawyer wasn’t present during his court proceedings. State prosecutor, Advocate Esana Moshasha said he had no objection to the case being postponed. He welcomed the court’s decision.

Magistrate Abdul Khan told Longwe that they couldn’t proceed with the matter after his lawyer asked for the case to be postponed.

“Mr Twala, the matter’s going to be back in court on 25 September. Your lawyer has asked for some time to work on this case.

“He asked the state to prepare for your case. You will remain in custody until you hear about your bail next week,” he said.

Khan said he will continue with this case next week and Longwe will know about his application update.

The 39-year-old was arrested, alongside his younger brother Sello (34), whose matter was withdrawn after the state prosecutor told the court there wasn’t enough evidence against him.

Longwe and Sello were arrested for housebreaking and theft of equipment worth thousands of rands. They allegedly broke into their dad’s studio earlier in September in Fourways, Joburg.

Chicco had opened a case of theft against them at the Douglasdale Police Station.

Chicco said Longwe had been doing drugs since he was 18. He accused his son of stealing from other people, including family members.
