Pretoria Capitals head into Betway SA20 Season 4 with renewed ambition, a refreshed squad and a leadership group steeped in international pedigree, as excitement builds for another high summer of cricket at Centurion.
The Capitals, runners up in the inaugural season of the tournament, have retooled decisively ahead of the new campaign, blending Caribbean flair with some of South Africa’s most prized talent. The arrivals of Dewald Brevis, Lungi Ngidi and Lizaad Williams headline a recruitment drive that signals clear intent after two seasons outside the playoffs.
At the heart of the new era is Keshav Maharaj, who has been appointed captain for Season 4. One of South Africa’s most experienced and respected cricketers, the left arm spinner takes over the leadership from Rilee Rossouw after previously captaining Durban’s Super Giants. Maharaj brings calm authority, tactical intelligence and a proven record of leadership across formats, qualities the franchise believes will provide clarity and direction in a competitive field.
The Capitals will also benefit from a new look coaching setup. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has been appointed head coach, working alongside former Proteas skipper and leading Test wicket taker Shaun Pollock. The combination adds significant gravitas to the Capitals bench, pairing global experience with deep local insight.
Pretoria were the most active franchise at the September auction, armed with the largest purse and multiple slots to fill. They made history by breaking the SA20 salary record with their acquisition of Brevis and further strengthened the squad with the signings of Maharaj, Ngidi, Williams, Craig Overton, Bryce Parsons and Codi Yusuf. Andre Russell was added as a wildcard signing, while Sherfane Rutherford, Will Smeed, Shai Hope and Jordan Cox come in as experienced overseas players.
The on field excitement will begin on 27 December when the Capitals open their campaign against neighbours and rivals Joburg Super Kings at Centurion, following the tournament opener on 26 December. With the final scheduled for 25 January 2026, anticipation is building across the city.
Adding to the build up, Capitals twentieth player Leandie du Randt has urged supporters to turn Centurion into a fortress. With less than ten days before the tournament begins, she called on local fans to bring their trademark energy and festive spirit. “It’s December. Bring your family and your friends and come enjoy the gees,” du Randt said. “Nobody puts the fun in Pretoria like the people of Centurion.”
Beyond the cricket, Betway SA20 promises a full stadium experience throughout the summer. Fans can expect free giveaways, entertainment for children including stilt walkers, balloon artists and face painters, live DJs, dance cams and interactive activities during innings breaks. Young supporters will also have the chance to play on the field during the first hour after gates open, weather permitting.

Gates open three hours before the first ball, giving spectators plenty of time to soak up what promises to be one of the highlights of the South African sporting summer.
