Mamelodi Sundowns star Bongani Zungu has announced that he will be parting ways with the club following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season.
Zungu joined the club in August 2022 after leaving French side Amiens as a free agent.
“I would like to thank Mamelodi Sundowns fans, technical team and the president [Tlhopie Motsepe] for the last two seasons,” wrote Zungu on his Instagram account.
“The relationship I have with the club is beyond the professional space; Sundowns will always be family to me and the entire Zungu family. I will always be grateful for every opportunity I was offered. So l say this with a heavy heart that I will be leaving the club.
“Thank you to all the amazing supporters who have been amazing to me throughout; I will always be grateful. I wish the team all the best; I know bigger success awaits you. I can’t say this enough: Thank you, KBY,” he added.
His last match for the club was during the 2024 Nedbank Cup final defeat to rivals Orlando Pirates at Mbombela Stadium. Zungu featured 51 times in all competitions.
Zungu first joined Sundowns in 2013 from University of Pretoria and stayed until January 2016, then went to Vitória de Guimarães in Europe. After one season in Portugal, he joined Amiens, but also had a loan spell at Rangers, lifting the Scottish league title.
