Maritzburg United will look to extend Kaizer Chiefs’ winless run in the 2020-21 DStv Premiership season when the teams meet at Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg on Wednesday.
Kick-off is a 6pm.
Maritzburg have taken four points from their last two matches after playing to a 1-1 draw at Bloemfontein Celtic on 6 March, with Thabiso Kutumela scoring for the second game in a row.
The Team of Choice has claimed eight points from nine home matches this season, with their last result as hosts a 1-0 win over Black Leopards earlier this month.
“We relied on young players to do the job and it was a valuable point for us considering all that. We closed the book and we are preparing for our next game on Wednesday [against Kaizer Chiefs],” said Maritzburg United head coach Ernst Middendorp.
“It is good to see that we have energy and other dynamics on the field from each and everybody contributing to the team performance.”
“I think so far we’ve picked four points in two matches [after four defeats in a row], and this is a good start, and next game coming on Wednesday, we have to make points again.”
Chiefs saw their winless run in the league extended to five matches when they were held 1-1 at home by SuperSport United on 20 February, with Reeve Frosler scoring their opening goal.
The Amakhosi have claimed 11 points from eight away matches this season, with their last result on the road a 2-1 loss at the hands of arch rivals Orlando Pirates in January.
When the teams met earlier this season, at FNB Stadium in January 2021, Maritzburg claimed a 2-0 away win thanks to a brace from Judas Moseamedi.
The Team of Choice is unbeaten in their last three league clashes with the Amakhosi.
