Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso has confirmed that Kylian Mbappe will miss the Club World Cup clash with Pachuca, but is hopeful that the striker will return against Red Bull Salzburg.
The club announced on Thursday that Mbappe was suffering from the illness and, as such, had been admitted with acute gastroenteritis and missed their draw against Al-Hilal.
“He’s doing better, he’s back from the hospital and is recovering. We’re optimistic about having him against Salzburg,” Alonso said.
Madrid face Salzburg in the final game of group H on Thursday in Philadelphia.
Mbappe finished as the European Golden Shoe winner in his first season at Real Madrid with 31 goals in LaLiga and 43 across all competitions, but Los Blancos finished the season without a major trophy.
