The late Metro FM presenter Pearl Ntombifuthi Shongwe’s funeral service will be held in Diepkloof Zone 5 on Saturday, family announced.
In a press statement, her family said she died in her sleep at her Johannesburg home.
“The funeral of our beloved daughter will be on Saturday, 19 November 2022,” family spokesperson Khehla Tshabalala said in a press statement. “The family [will] hold an intimate service at the family home in Diepkloof Zone 5 at 06:30. The cortege will leave for the church service at the Welfare Centre at 07:30.”
Tshabalala added that her family was “deeply moved and humbled by the outpouring of support” they received since Shongwe’s death.
Shongwe will be laid to rest at the Nasrec Memorial Park.
Meanwhile, a memorial service to celebrate Shongwe’s life will take place at the SABC’s M1 Studio in Auckland Park on Wednesday, 16 November. It will start at noon.
Born in Soweto, the television presenter, newsreader was also a Miss Soweto 2011 finalist.
Her career in broadcasting kicked off in 2010 when she worked for youth radio station YFM as an entertainment reporter, alongside youth pioneer and DJ, Mo Flava, for over two years.
She also went on to work as a floor MC at Silverstar Casino, where she learnt the art of connecting with audiences.
With sport as one of her passions, she worked with SABC Sport as a reporter and voice artist to their flagship programs, including a children sport show, ‘Sports Buzz’.
Shongwe also featured on the SABC 24hr News channel as a sports host on Sports Live. She moved on to co-host Morning Live on weekends alongside Simphiwe Ncongwane.
