The Miss South Africa Organisation has postponed its annual pageant, which is normally scheduled to take place in August, to a later date.
In a short press release, the organisation said the decision was “to ensure greater alignment with international and other global events”.
“The organisation, through its affiliated companies, aims to broaden the reach and impact of the pageant and its contestants,” it added.
“The pillars of the organisation will be expanded to include entrepreneurship, job creation, cultural awareness and social cohesion.”
The postponement comes amid at least two high-profile resignations.
The Miss SA organisation recently announced that Stephanie Weil had stepped down as CEO, and Werner Wessels had also stepped down as creative director of Miss SA.
Wessels, who has been in the role as creative director since 2019, brought home two Miss Universe titles for Zozi Tunzi and Demi-Lee-Nel Peters (Tebow).
Earlier this year, it was unexpectedly announced that the Miss SA Organisation would no longer send a representative to the Miss Supranational Pageant in Poland, two years after cutting ties with the Miss World Organisation.
The Miss SA beauty pageant has always been a national event that every South African looks forward to.
From announcing the top 30 up until the finale, this prestigious event was celebrated throughout the entire country as people looked forward to having a beauty queen represent our country.
