MC Alger announced the appointment of former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena as the club’s new head coach on Sunday ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Mokwena has been without a job after leaving Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club in May and has been linked to a number of teams.
“Rhulani Mokwena is the new coach of the dean of the Algerian clubs. Rhulani Mokwena! Welcome to Mouloudia,” a club statement read.
Alger are set to compete in the upcoming Caf Champions League after winning the 2024/25 Algerian Ligue 1 title under coach Khaled Ben Yahia.
The Tunisian mentor surprisingly left the Mouloudia at the end of the season.
Fullview learnt that Mokwena will be joined in Algeria by his backroom staff when he completes the formalities of his deal.
This move was largely welcomed by the club’s supporters: “Good luck to him in coaching one of the pillars of Algeria’s clubs. I hope Algerian clubs return to honouring us and shining on the African continent,” one user wrote on Facebook.
Another added: “A great coach with great competence. He is a coach with strong ideas in the world of football.”
Mokwena will reunite with Sead Ramovic, now at CR Belouizdad, with whom he shared a heated rivalry during their time in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
