Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club have confirmed the appointment of former Mamelodi Sundowns boss Rulani Mokwena as their new head coach.
Mokwena has signed a two-year deal with the three-time African Champions.
He is expected to be joined in Morocco by trusted lieutenants Sinethemba Badela and Michael Loftman who will work with him as assistants.

Mokwena’s decision to join Wydad comes despite interest from other North African clubs, including AS FAR, USM Alger and CR Belouizdad. The allure of the Botola Pro giants, coupled with the ambition of the club’s new leadership, proved irresistible for the Soweto-born tactician.
He guided Sundowns to consecutive Dstv Premiership titles and the inaugural African Football League (AFL) title, left the Brazilians amids rift with sporting director Flemming Berg.
The 2021/22 CAF Champions League winners will participate in the expanded FIFA Club World Cup. Africa’s three other participants are Egypt’s Al Ahly, Sundowns, and Esperance.
