SA Police Services (SAPS) arrested two more G4S employees in connection with the escape of convicted rapist and murderer, Thabo Bester.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the two employees, who were dismissed by the company, were arrested on Monday at their place of residence in Bloemfontein.
The pair will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, on charges of assisting an inmate to escape from lawful custody and defeating the ends of justice.
Mathe said the team investigating the dramatic escape of Bester from Mangaung Correctional Centre last year, has so far arrested eight suspects for their alleged roles in the dramatic escape which also made international nears.
Other people who have been arrested in connection with Bester’s escape include his girlfriend, celebrity aesthetics doctor Nandipha Magudumana, her father, Zolile Sekeleni, and Integritron Integrated Solutions employee Teboho Lipholo.
She said SAPS cannot rule out the possibility of making more arrests as the investigation continues.
Bester and Magudumana were arrested in Tanzania along with the Zimbabwean national after it was confirmed that the person who died in a fire in his cell was not Bester.
A case of murder is under investigation and the deceased has since been identified as 31-year-old Katlego Mpholo.
Bester will be back in court again on 16 May.
