Wydad Casablanca has confirmed the passing of left-back Oussama Falouh, who passed away ahead of the African Football League final against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Falouh, who joined Wydad from the French Ligue 1 side Angers, was involved in a tragic road accident on October 11.
The 24-year-old had been in a coma until his demise on November 2 as confirmed by the club.
“With great sadness, the Wydad Athletic Club management office announced the death of the respected player, Oussama Falouh,” the club stated.
“In this dark hour, Saïd Naciri, on behalf of himself and all the members of his office, the players, the technical and administrative teams, and all the employees extends his most sincere and deepest condolences and regrets to the family of the deceased, to his loved ones, as well as to all components of the Wydad Athletic Club.”
Wydad are scheduled to host Sundowns on Sunday in the first leg at the Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca.
The first leg takes place on 5 November, at Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca. The reverse fixture of the final is Tshwane, taking place on 12 November.
Wydad head into the encounter carrying a marginal psychological edge over their South African rivals. Of the last 11 matches between the pair, the Moroccan club boasts four wins to Sundowns’ three.
Four of the clashes between the teams have ended in stalemates. The most recent draw was in May 2023, when Wydad knocked Sundowns out of the Caf Champions League in the semifinals. The game ended two-all in Tshwane. The Moroccans advanced on away goals, following a 0-0 draw during the first leg in Casablanca.
