Moroka Swallows have forfeited six points and have been fined for failing to honour DStv Premiership matches against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows in December.
Swallows appeared before the PSL’s Disciplinary Committee after they failed to honour their DStv Premiership fixtures against Mamelodi Sundowns (27 December) and Lamontville Golden Arrows (30 December) following a pay dispute between players and management.
They faced a monetary fine, major points deduction or even expulsion from the league.
PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu confirmed the club will forfeit the points from those matches with a 3-0 scoreline to their opponents, and the club received an effective R400 000 fine.
“At the commencement of the proceedings after the charges were put to them, they pleaded guilty. The league accepted their guilty plea and as a result, they were convicted accordingly, “said Majavu.
They had a R1-million sanction imposed on them, but R600 000 was suspended for two years.
Swallows were also warned that a future transgression of the same nature could see them face expulsion from the league.
