Saudi Arabian top-flight side Al-Ahli Saudi have confirmed South African tactician Pitso Mosimane as their new head coach.

Mosimane’s left Egypt giants Al Ahly on June 13, with the club releasing a statement announcing that they’d parted ways with the South African head coach.

During his 21-month tenure, Mosimane had led the Red Devils to three CAF Champions League finals in a row, winning both the 2020 and 2021 editions of the competition.

He had also guided the team to two consecutive FIFA Club World Cup bronze medals, two CAF Super Cup victories in addition to an Egypt Cup and an Egyptian Super Cup coronations.

However, after the club’s poor run of results in the latter stages of the Egyptian Premier League, Mosimane was under huge pressure from local media with pundits and former players criticising the South African coach.

Following a three-month layoff, Mosimane has now found a new home in Saudi Arabian giants Al Ahli Jeddah as he hopes to turn around their form.

Al Ahli Jeddah were shockingly relegated from the Saudi Pro League for the first time in the club’s history after finishing 15th with just 32 points.

Earlier this year, reports in the Egyptian press suggested that the Senegal Football Association were also keen on appointing Mosimane in order to get the best out of their talented crop of players.

It would be a tantalising move—to see Africa’s finest coach manage Sadio Mane, arguably Africa’s finest player, not to mention his star-studded supporting cast.

However, since those murmurings, Senegal won the Africa Cup of Nations under Aliou Cisse, and qualified for the World Cup.

Mosimane’s agent and wife Moira Tlhagale also confirmed that she has received calls from clubs both in the PSL and from abroad interested in the Kagiso-born mentor.
