Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane revealed the reason behind Percy Tau’s substitution in Al-Merreikh game in the CAF Champions League.
The Reds successfully grabbed three points from Al-Merreikh clash to boost Champions League knockout stages qualification chances.
The game was close between the two sides for the majority of the 90 minutes but the Red Devils came out on top with the result of 3-1 in the end.
Despite Al Ahly winger Percy Tau showing impressive performance and scoring the game’s opening goal, he was substituted by the start of the second half.
In the post-match presser, Mosimane revealed the reason behind the substitution while sharing his thoughts after the victory.
“Percy Tau’s substitution was due to injury, he was fit to start and he scored a goal but he suffered an injury,” Mosimane said.
“The game was difficult but the most important thing is that we won and collected three more points in the qualification race.
“Once again, I am telling you we need VAR in the Champions League group stage, it’s crucial.
When asked about Hossam Hassan and why he doesn’t give him more playtime, Pitso replied: “I am not against Hossam, but Sherif is scoring so why am I always being asked about Hossam.
“Why am I not being asked about other players? Ali Lotfi performed well in the Club World Cup and no one is asking about him.”
After Al-Merreikh victory, the African champions are now second on the group table with seven points, three points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
