The MTN 8 last four ties have been confirmed after Stellenbosch FC secured a win over SuperSport United in their MTN8 quarterfinal match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday evening.
The win saw Stellies reach the semifinals of the Top 8 competition for the first time in the club’s history – joining Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in the last four.
The decisive goal was netted by Andre de Jong in the 99th minute as the New Zealand international headed home Fawaaz Basadien’s well-taken corner-kick at the near-post to seal Stellenbosch’s 1-0 win over SuperSport.
Chiefs fought back from a goal down to beat Cape Town City 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at a packed to-capacity Athlone Stadium. Marc Van Heerden opened the scoring for the hosts while Chiefs roared back with goals from Ashely Du Preez and Edson Castillo.
They will now take on Sundowns, who got the better results against Moroka Swallows in the semi-final as they look to reach their first cup final under coach Molefi Ntseki.
Pirates ran rampant against Sekhukhune United on Saturday at Orlando Stadium where Jose Riveiro’s men demolished Sekhukhune United 5-0.
The defending champions will play the first-leg match away to Stellies.
