Multiple people have been injured as a result of a structural collapse involving workers near King Shaka International Airport in Durban.
Preliminary reports indicate that there are about seven people injured, however, at this stage, no fatalities have been reported.
Marshall Security’s community support, Andreas Mathios: “Multiple service providers have responded to the airport as a result of a structural collapse involving workers. All rescue services are on scene. The circumstances around this incident is unclear at this stage and I can also confirm that Netcare’s 911 aeromedical helicopter has also been dispatched to the area.”
Fullview understands there was construction work under way at the factory.
ALS Paramedics’ Garrith Jamieson said they were there just before 14:00 on Saturday afternoon.
“At around 13:45 on Saturday afternoon, ALS Paramedics responded to numerous calls of a structural collapse on the R102 near the King Shaka International Airport, north of Durban. Paramedics from multiple ambulance services, together with all the necessary rescue divisions, were dispatched to assist,” he said.
“Paramedics arrived on scene to find that while construction workers had been working on scaffolding inside a factory, somehow the scaffolding gave way,” said Jamieson.
He said one person was critically injured and had to be airlifted to hospital.
