Multiple people killed as truck slams into cars in Roodepoort.

Six people have been killed in a collision involving three minibus taxis and a truck in Roodepoort, west of Johannesburg on Thursday afternoon. 

According to ER24 paramedics, a truck also crashed into pedestrians on the corner of Peter and Hendrik Potgieter roads.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said five people were declared dead upon arrival at hospital.

“Nine other patients were tended to on the scene. Four were found in critical condition, while five others had sustained minor to moderate injuries.

“Unfortunately, after some time, one of the critical patients succumbed to their injuries and was declared dead.”

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla explains: “Peter Road in Ruimsig is closed off to traffic between Hendrik Potgieter and Van Dalin road and this is due to a fatal accident involving a truck an five other vehicles.

The cause of the accidents has not yet been determined.
