Manchester United have been drawn with Bayern Munich in their Champions League group, while Newcastle were handed the toughest draw with Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan.
United were also paired with FC Copenhagen from Denmark and Turkish side Galatasaray in Group A.
Arsenal have been paired with Sevilla and Celtic face Atletico Madrid.
Manchester City’s draw looks relatively kind by contrast, with RB Leipzig, Swiss side Young Boys and Red Star Belgrade, who won the European Cup in 1991, joining them in Group G.
