AmaZulu Football Club have parted ways with head coach Benny McCarthy
The club has released a statement confirming the news and stated, “AmaZulu FC and Benni McCarthy have mutually agreed to terminate their relationship with immediate effect. The club would like to thank coach Benni for his time with AmaZulu and wishes him all the best in his future endeavours. In the interim, the club will continue the fight to end the season in the top 4 of the league. The President and the club will make further announcements about this issue in due course.”
AmaZulu are ninth on the log with 29 points from 23 matches. Usuthu are yet to win a league match in 2022.
Usuthu, with five wins and four losses, are the king of draws this season as they have 14 so far and were also eliminated in the group stage of the Caf Champions League.
McCarthy joined AmaZulu in October 2020 after some time without a job following his sacking by Cape Town City in 2019.
He began his coaching career with Belgian side Sint-Truiden in 2015, having hung up his boots following a stint with Orlando Pirates two years previously.
The former striker had been under contract with AmaZulu until 2023, it is believed that his successor will be found—at least on a short-term basis—from among his current staff.
In other coaching developments, relegation-threatened National First Division (NFD) side TS Sporting have parted ways with former coach Benson Mhlongo after a string of poor results.
