Pirates close in on Sundowns and Chiefs drop points.

Orlando Pirates produced a solid performance after defeating struggling Marumo Gallants 2-0 at Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg on Sunday afternoon.

The victory takes Pirates to second in the standings, one point behind Mamelodi Sundowns. On the other hand, Gallants remained 16th in the standings and winless from seven matches.

Kabelo Kgotsitsile and Nkosinathi Sibisi scored in each half to give Pirates their sixth win in seven matches. 

Pirates enjoyed the better of the chances on the half-hour mark and grabbed the lead when Kgositsile made a run in-behind and volleyed in the near corner.

In the second half, the defending league champions scored another goal thanks to a powerful header from captain my captain Sibisi.

Pirates have now accumulated 19 points, while Sundowns are positioned top with 20 points, but the Buccaneers have a game in hand over their title rivals.

Meanwhile Golden Arrows and Kaizer Chiefs played to a 0-0 draw in their Betway Premiership match at the Mbombela Stadium and KwaZulu-Natal derby between Milford FC and Durban City ended in a 1-1 draw at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
