Orlando Pirates have kept their title race alive after a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Tuesday evening.
Pirates moved to 62 points and remained second on the log while the defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns are just two points clear at the top.
The visitors signalled their intention to collect three points away from home after creating the chances in the opening exchanges, searching for an early goal.
Pirates were eventually rewarded in the 42nd minute when striker Evidence Mokgopa slotted from a free kick. The Buccaneers scored a second during the referees’ optional time through Patrick Maswanganyi to take a 2-0 lead going into the halftime break.
The Buccaneers stood firm to defeat Stellies and put some pressure on Sundowns as they prepare to face Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile Durban City FC settled for a thrilling 2-2 draw with Siwelele FC, while Orbit College FC won the battle of strugglers over Magesi FC in Premier Soccer League matches played on Tuesday night.
