SA Police Services in Kwazulu-Natal have launched a manhunt for suspects who shot dead four people in Umlazi, south of Durban.
Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says the motive of the killings is yet to be established.
“Although robbery could not be ruled out,” he said.
“It is alleged that a group of friends were drinking alcohol inside a shack when at least six suspects stormed in and demanded cell phones.”
“The victims reportedly refused to hand over their cellphones and one of the suspects drew a firearm and shot three people. As they were leaving the crime scene, the suspects allegedly met another man who was walking to the shack from a pit latrine, and they shot him dead after he also reportedly refused to surrender his cell phone.”
“All victims were declared deceased at the scene. The suspects are unknown at this stage,” he added.
Police have appealed to anyone who might have information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects to contact their nearest police station or the Crime Stop number 08600-10111.
In a separate incident, two people were shot dead at the Umhlathuze municipal head office in Richards Bay in KZN.
According to a statement released by the City of uMhlathuze Municipality’s communication manager Bongani Gina, the incident took place at the municipal head office in Richards Bay.
“The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed that two workers have tragically lost their lives as a result of this incident.
“Our deepest condolences go out to the families and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time,” read the statement.
