The South African Police Services (Saps) says there is no update surrounding the murder of South African rapper Kiernan Forbes, also known as AKA.
AKA and his friend Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane were killed outside a Durban restaurant, along the popular Florida Road.
KZN spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda neither confirmed nor denied that five suspects were taken in for questioning for the award-winning rappers murder.
Netshiunda said unconfirmed reports about the arrest of “an ever-changing number of suspects have been doing the rounds and are misleading the public.”
“Although police understand that the matter attracted media attention and that the public awaits with bated breath for any developments, police are calling upon the media and everyone else to refrain from making reports that have the potential of jeopardising ongoing investigations.
“Such reports also have a potential of putting at risk the lives of the people purported to have been arrested as well as endangering the lives of individuals who are portrayed as police officers in photographs and videos which have been doing the rounds on certain websites and social media platforms,” Netshiunda said.
Netshiunda said police are appealing for space and time to investigate AKA’s murder, saying they will provide an update on any progress in the investigation “in due course”.
Meanwhile in their statement, Lynne and Tony Forbes say they are aware of the public discontent related to the progress that has been made in the probe, but they’ve also deeply concerned by irresponsible actions, accusations, and assumptions that may cause more harm than good.
“At this time, we urge the Megacy to mourn responsibly and ask for patience so that law enforcers have the space to do their job. We humbly request that you continue celebrating Kiernan’s life, preserve his memory, and continue his legacy through his music,” the family said in a statement on Wednesday.
AKA’s parents have also warned the public about people posing as members of the Forbes family who seek donations and investments under false pretexts.
“We have not opened any donation accounts or requested any investments.”
The rapper’s last album ‘Mass Country’, which was released posthumously, has been well-received by fans and continues to top local charts.
