South African captain, Aiden Markram, won the toss and chose to bat first in their World Cup group match against Bangladesh at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday.
South Africa are in third place with three wins and six points from four matches, just behind India who have ten points and New Zealand who have four wins and eight points from five matches. Victory today would South Africa above New Zealand on net run-rate.
Bangladesh are in seventh place with just one victory from four games so far and have to win today to keep their slim semifinal hopes alive.
South Africa’s regular captain, Temba Bavuma, has not fully recovered from the stomach bug which kept him out of the match against England leaving Markram to continue as stand-in skipper while Reeza Hendricks will again open the batting with Quionton de Kock.
Lungi Ngidi has a “slight knee niggle” and has been replaced by fellow fast bowler Lizaad Williams who makes his first appearance in the tournament.
Bangladesh captain, Shakib al Hasan, was passed fit to play having missed his team’s last game due to hamstring strain.
