The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has revealed donations to parties for the third quarter, with newer parties Rise Mzansi, ActionSA and Build One South Africa (Bosa) receiving the largest funding.
The report covered the period between October and December 2023.
The declarations from the seven political parties amounts to almost R60 million.
The report shows new kid on the block Rise Mzansi was the highest party to receive donations of more than R16,7 million, followed by ActionSA with R13,9 million and the ANC with R10 million.
Build One South Africa (BOSA) was given R8,5 million, while tue Patriotic Alliance received donation of R7 million.
“Rise Mzansi declared the highest value of donations received at R16 744 186, which R15 million was a monetary donation received from Rebecca Oppenheimer,” the IEC said on Thursday.
“ActionSA, declared donations from Victoria Freudenheim of R7 486 200 and Martin Moshal R5 000 000, made of two separate donations of R3 000 000 and R2 000 000.
“ANC made declaration of a combined R10 000 000 from Chancellor House Trust. BOSA declared donation of R6 000 000 from Jessica Bridget Slack Jell, followed by Martin Moshal with a donation of R2 000 000.”
PA party leader, Gayton McKenzie, was the party’s highest donor for the quarter with three separate donations of R250 000 R2 289 130 and R220 000.
Another party leader, Kenny Kunene, made a total monetary donation of R1 007 250 to his party during the same period.
“DA’s largest donation of R1 000 000.00 was received from an entity named Artemis Properties (Pty) Ltd, followed by Beacon Rock Limited with a donation of R999 711.81, “the IEC said.
The DA got R2 million from the funders.
The parties are already campaigning for the elections following the announcement by the President, Cyril Ramaphosa, that the elections will be on May 29.
