Egyptian giants Al Ahly face Moroccan counterparts Raja on Wednesday at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium in Doha, Qatar, to determine the winner of the 30th edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup.
Al Ahly are the CAF Super Cup title holders, having beaten Morocco’s RS Berkane 2-0 in Doha last May to lift their seventh Super Cup trophy.
The Red Devils earned their spot by winning the CAF Champions League, while their opponents emerged victorious in the Confederation Cup.
Ahead of the confrontation,Al Ahly boss Pitso Mosimane spoke on multiple topics, including the importance of fans, his message to Mohammed Sherif, and more.
“When we play in Qatar, we feel like we’re already ahead, the fans’ support makes the difference, in Egypt, we used to play without our fans; however, we are starting to see fans there too, even if their numbers are fewer,” Pitso said.
“I hope to see a lot of fans during the Raja game,they are amazing and they always believe in us, even when we face football giants like Bayern Munich or Palmeiras.
“Nine of my players returned from the FIFA Arab Cup feeling low, these players I only saw yesterday, we didn’t have the time to fully prepare, but we are not looking for excuses, that’s life and my players can overcome it.
“When Sherif came to the hotel, all I told him is that I am waiting for a goal against Raja, I believe in him, he was the EPL top scorer last year and we completely trust him.
“People do not want excuses from the players, they expect you to win, and that applies to the FIFA Club World Cup too.
“My players didn’t win the Arab Cup, but they now have a chance to win the CAF Super Cup, and we have to go for it, the game will be difficult but we can win it.”
