Ramaphosa defy calls to stay away from the hostile ANC KZN conference.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has arrived at Olive Conversion Centre and has been quickly whisked away into a briefing with the newly appointed ANC KZN PEC.

Delegates still need to vote for additional PEC members before the address by Ramaphosa and newly elected chairperson Siboniso Duma.

Earlier in the morning, there was confusion over whether Ramaphosa would be attending after Duma told the media he received a call from Ramaphosa congratulating the new leadership.

He went on to say Ramaphosa had informed him because of other engagements, the president said he would not be able to address the gathering.

Our sources told us Ramaphosa decided to defy calls for him to stay away from the hostile ANC KZN conference.

ANC head of presidency Sibongile Besani, NEC member Mamoloko Kubayi, and other leaders also confirmed Ramaphosa would be attending and giving the closing remarks at the conference on Sunday.

Duma said the party will collective decide on who they would nominate for a top six position at December’s national elective conference.

He said he wanted to make it clear that the ANC is a national organisation and that will be a factor before the December conference.

“The ANC is one and it is a national organisation. It is always that as a province we want to select, identify and deploy one of our own. We are going to ensure that we identify among us a comrade that will play a potential role in the Top Six in the ANC nationally, “Duma said.

He said he was happy with the way the conference had progressed and despite the contestation for position, there was optimism that all party members could work together.

“The issue of service delivery is pivotal in society and we need to ensure that we all work together in the structures to do this,” he said.
