The Labour Court has ruled in favour of the bus service operator, PioTrans declaring the Rea Vaya bus strike unlawful and unprotected
This is after PioTrans headed to court on Thursday in a bid to secure an interdict against striking workers.
It’s understood their grievances are centred around delays in the payment of their 13th cheques and unhappiness with the terms thereof.
The strike continued on Thursday, with buses still not operating.
Business rescue practitioner Mahier Tayob has described the demands made by striking Rea Vaya workers as bizarre.
Tayob said they had been granted a court interdict, preventing bus drivers from blocking buses from leaving the depot.
“The second part of the application will be an action for the damages that the entity has suffered, including additional costs the company has incurred in terms of repairs, towing, security all that has to be recovered.
“In addition, I will lay criminal charges for the police to investigate the people behind the sabotage and damages”.
Piotrans was placed under business rescue in December after creditors tried to seize part of its fleet due to outstanding debt earlier this year.
Piotrans, has been marred by problems preventing the company from running optimally.
MMC for Transport in the city, Kenny Kunene, offered Tayob his full support, saying he must be assertive and called the striking workers “unreasonable” and their conduct, intolerable.
