Reflecting back on where it all started…Silvertone’s 20th Anniversary.

Lifestyle Reporter.

20 years ago in 2001 Dennis da Silva established Silvertone International. It was first set up to focus mainly on black and white darkroom printing but Dennis soon realised the rising demand for Digital Fine Art.

In 2002 Andreas Kahlau was brought onboard for his excellent digital fine art printing expertise and from there Silvertone just kept on growing and developing into a world-class fine art printing facility. Dennis and Andreas were a team to be reckoned with and together they developed and executed their vision for Silvertone to offer an unprecedented level of service and quality of work to the digital creative industry.

Over the years Silvertone’s scope of work and expertise broadened to meet the growing demand for printed limited edition artworks, large scale prints, scanning, book reproduction and art reproduction. While Dennis remained focused on wet chemical printing and processing, Andreas, with his German training and background, built up the digital side.

In 2013 Andreas took over from Dennis completely.

Over the years Silvertone has gone from strength to strength. They have worked with renowned individuals from all over the world and have even hosted a few in-house exhibitions.

In recent years…

In January 2016 the brilliant Frank Marshall joined the Silvertone team and since then he has played a pivotal role in Silvertone’s continuing growth and success.

In 2018 Silvertone further expanded by launching the framing department.

The Silvertone team was further boosted by the arrival of printing specialist Joe Takawira in September 2020.

April & May 2021 marked a significant time in Silvertone’s history. They had to find a new home after nearly 20 years in our premises at 5 St Andrews Rd. They managed to find the perfect place just around the corner and so the big move started.

After a successful relocation, they found their feet at their new home: 5 Girton Road, Parktown, Johannesburg.
