Mamelodi Sundowns striker Lucas Ribeiro’s goal against Borussia Dortmund has been voted as the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup best goal of the tournament.
After being set up in his own half, he made a 67-yard run, shrugging off the challenge of two defenders before beating goalkeeper Gregor Kobel in a match that Sundowns went on to lose 4-3.
Now, over 40,000 fans have voted Ribeiro’s goal as the best of the tournament.
“I am always confident. I’m very happy to have scored the goal,” Ribeiro said as per FIFA.com.
“The moment I turned with the ball, I said, ‘OK, let me go, let me put the ball in the space.’ I’m happy with the goal, but the most important thing is that the team played well.
“I have good speed, but not normally over a long distance. This was the difference for me scoring this goal.”
He beat Lionel Messi’s free kick against FC Porto and João Pedro’s well-struck effort, which helped Chelsea beat Fluminense 2-0.
Also, Juventus forward Kenan Yildiz’s stunner from outside the box against Wydad Casablanca could not be voted as better than Ribeiro’s.
