Rising SA cricket star Dewald Brevis heads to IPL.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed South African batter Dewald Brevis as replacement for the injured Gurjapneed Singh for the remainder of IPL 2025.

Brevis will join the CSK for 2.2 Indian crore (around R4.8-million).

The 21-year-old previously played 10 matches for the Mumbai Indians in the 2022 and 2024 IPL seasons.

Brevis made his mark in this year’s SA20, scoring 291 runs in 12 matches for eventual champions MI Cape Town at an average of 48.50 and a strike rate of 184.17.

CSK are currently at the bottom of the points table with just two wins in seven games.

Meanwhile Punjab Kings soared to second on the Tata IPL table after they beat the Royal Challengers Bengaluru by five wickets in a rain-affected match contested over 14 overs at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday night.

It was RCB’s third consecutive home defeat after winning all four of their away matches.

The match only started two hours late after steady rain and both teams had to negotiate a lively, sweaty wicket that made batting difficult, particularly against pace and spin bowling just short of a length.
