MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure in Limpopo Ernest Rachoene has confirmed the resignation of three Road Agency board members.
The current board was appointed by the then MEC Dickson Masemola. It was appointed for a period of three years, which ended in February.
Briefing the media at his office in Polokwane, Rachoene said the members did not provide reasons for their resignation.
The resignations came just a week after Premier Phophi Ramathuba complained about Road Agency Limpopo’s tendency to embark on projects without an approved budget.
“I have been served with resignations by three board members of Road Agency Limpopo. Up to this stage, leaving the current board not to form a quorum of the total number of eight board members,” said Rachoene.
“It is also important for me to also indicate that there was still a vacant position of a board member to represent the Transport Department.”
The board has officially been dissolved and an interim board is expected to be appointed in the next few days.
Rachoene said an interim board will be announced in due course.
“The department is, in the meantime, engaging the Treasury Department to ensure that an interim board of directors is appointed.
“The department will later make an announcement on the names of the interim board members.”
Rachoene also sent gratitude to the Premier Ramathuba whom he says has been supportive.
“I would also like to express my special appreciation to the Premier of the province, Dr Phophi Ramathuba for the support she is giving the department,” he added.
