Mamelodi Sundowns moved five points clear at the top of the DStv Premiership table with a 4-0 thrashing of Marumo Gallants on Sunday evening.
Sundowns suffered an injury blow when Khuliso Mudau was stretchered off after nine minutes and replaced by Thapelo Morena.
The visitors took the lead in the 24th minute, as Themba Zwane scored a great goal from just outside the area after great build-up play by the team.
Neo Maema went close in the 32nd minute, after being set up well by Pavol Safranko, but the former Bloemfontein Celtic man’s effort struck the upright.
The log leaders dominated the first half, but weren’t able to add to their one goal leaf when the whistle blew for half-time.
Gallants could have equalised on the hour mark,Mpho Mvelase having a great chance but he blasted over from close range. Celimpilo Ngema’s long range effort five minutes later going wide.
But it was Sundowns who scored second in the last 12 minutes when Peter Shalulile popped up in a good position to finish off a good counter-attack.
The Brazillians bagged a third with minutes to go after Safranko attacked a loose ball from a rebound by Gallants goalkeeper Washington Arubi to finish easily.
It got worse for the host as Shalulile bagged a brace in the latter seconds with a one-touch finish in the area to see out the tie.
Meanwhile Sekhukhune United scored a stoppage-time winner to condemn Swallows FC to a 1-0 defeat in a 2021-22 DStv Premiership match at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The game looked to be heading for a goalless draw but Prince Nxumalo had other ideas and in the end, Babina Noko walked away with all three points. Victory moved Sekhukhune back up to fifth spot on the league standings while Swallows fell down to 13th, having now failed to win in nine league matches.
Elsewhere Maritzburg United picked up a valuable point on the road in a 0-0 draw with Chippa United, in a 2021-22 DStv Premiership match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
